I (occasionally) *heart* Speech Delay

Like when Trevy calls his high tops high heels.

*****

Bristel and I had some alone time in the car after dropping Tobin off at his engineering class. The conversation inevitably went to romance. Because clearly that's what 8 year old girls think about.

Bristel randomly broke the silence with a sigh: Sometimes I think I may never find a husband.
Me: Well, honey, it's better to wait for the right guy rather than settle for the wrong one.
Bristel: That's a good point. (pause and then giggle) Daddy looked so silly in those circle glasses he used to wear! Did you think he looked silly even though you married him?
Me: They were pretty silly! Buuuuuuut...your dad made me laugh. So that balanced that out.
Bristel: I have really high expectations, I think.
Me after choking on the fact that she's EIGHT: Well, what are your top five expectations?
Bristel: He has to love Trevor. He has to love God. He has to love me. And he HAS to love my sense of humor! Also, he needs to be funny too.

I thought that was a pretty good list.

Evidently a 5 day vacation just wasn't cutting it for Trevor. When it was time to go to school he flopped on Bristel's bed and started incessantly crying, "Not enough time!!!"

*****

Trevor was chasing the dog around with a pair of play-doh scissors saying, "I doctor! I doctor!"

She was NOT amused. Even if the rest of us were.

*****

Jonathan schlepped our tree up from the basement and is in the process of trying to get it all set up. Trevor has been fascinated.

He just came up to me and asked, "Little People?"

We have a Little People nativity set that we bring out with all of our Christmas gear. He hasn't seen that thing in a year!!!

That boy has an amazing memory!

*****

I just told Trevy to open his mouth and when he obeyed I surprised him by spraying whipped cream into it.

The face he made was PRICELESS!

Now he's following me around with his mouth hanging open like a little baby bird.

Bristel loves FaceTiming her friend, Jamie. Trevor didn't quite catch her name once and called her "James" instead of Jamie on accident. It was cute but the girls tried to correct him. Big mistake. He thinks it's funny when he says things wrong and it annoys people. And when you correct him it only makes it that much more fun.

So now, every time Bristel is on FaceTime he's always hollering, JAAAAAMES! And Bristel always hollers back, "IT'S NOOOOOT JAAAAAAMES!"

This situation happens dozens of times a day and always ends in Trevor laughing hysterically. LOL

Trevy comes from his bath wrapped in a towel.

Pauses in the middle of the living room. Looks around. And with no warning throws the towel off and stands there in his "Roman Glory" with his fists in the air shouting...

Pow-ah Wange-ahs!

Trevy Speak for Power Rangers. :P

***********

Trevy still has a crooked smile from his surgery. He probably always will. It's adorable and him. So he smiles at Toby who says to me...

His smile may be broken...

but his love for us isn't.

And his smile is one of the most special things about him.

Um. Yeah. I cried.

**********

I’d just washed Trevy’s hair and Toby offers to be his “hair stylist”.  In true big brother form he starts mussing up Trevy’s un-curls.

No no no no

Trevy protested

I PEACOCK!

We’re pretty sure he meant to say he wanted a MOHAWK since he was squeezing his hair down the middle of his noggin trying to make one!

**********

Bristel had a fat lip so I gave her Carmax to treat it.  She said her lips felt funny.  I told her the medicine makes your lips tingle.  She then asked…

Are there any medicines that make your ears twitch?

**********

Me: Tobin, your dresser drawers are atrocious!

Toby: I know. I need to clean them.

Me: Um, yeah, like right now!

Toby: What?! Right now?! I'm not free until 3:30 on Saturday!

Bristel says her peanut butter and jelly tortilla really cheered her up.

our favorite new place to study

They looked so cute and study-licious at our new (to us) patio table.  Listening to K-love on the iPad.  Bristel in her princess dress that she insisted on wearing because we hung up a mosquito net over her bed which makes her feel like a princess.  Therefore, she must dress like one.

It was all just so adorable that I had to grab the camera!

shoes etc 010

Of course, what you can’t see in the picture was the arguing about whether to lift the umbrella or not.  They didn’t know I could hear them.  Cue mom eye roll.

Just keepin’ it real.

Smile & Sigh.

But other than the umbrella saga, we have been LOVING the warm weather stretch and the new patio set!

random-nings

Bristel holding a pair of Toby’s boxers in hand on our last laundry day with a disgusted look on her face says:

Whose X-boxers are these?

She didn’t know what she said wrong which just made Tobes and I laugh all the harder!

**********

Took the kids on a field trip last week to see The Spindle City Ballet’s Nutcracker.  Bristel and I were over the moon.  A perk of homeschooling is getting to pick the field trips!  I’d never been to a ballet before!  On the way home I asked the kids what their favorite part of the performance was. Toby without hesitation responded:

THE END!

Another perk of homeschooling…

She can dress like a ballerina to the ballet if she wants to.  Winking smile

While we were sitting in the que (they herded put all the homeschoolers together Smile) waiting to be seated for the Nutcracker…

A private school friend saw Toby and shouted hi to him.

I mentioned how nice it was that his friend recognized him and said hi.  To which Toby responded:

Well, mom, I have a pretty obvious face.

Bristel asked me why we don’t have any junk food in the house.

You know…

like oatmeal!

You know you’re a special needs mommy when…

The pharmacist leaves a Merry Christmas sticky note on your bag!
