poetry month

Thanks to my Knopf Poetry subscription I was reminded that yesterday was not just a wonderful day for pulling pranks…

it’s also marked the beginning of poetry month!

I am not a poet in any sense of the word.  And I tend to neglect poetry for most of the year.  Which is why I *heart* having the whole month of April to make up for lost time.  Because while I am not poetic…the love of poetry does run in our family.  In fact, our very own Poppy has a published book of poems.  I plan to read one a day this month as well as create some poetry of our own.  The kids were fascinated by Poppy’s book and some little hidden treasures (oooold pictures and notes) tucked between pages.

And just in case you also need a month of poetry catch-up here are some fun links to explore:

  1. Wow! I didn't know it was poetry month either, but how ironic...I saw this idea on Pinterest (of course! LOL) about having an English Tea with Poetry reading. I thought it would be fun, so I have a menu planned for our first "high tea" and the kids will pick out poems to memorize/read on Thursday (?) when we do this for an early dinner. We'll see how it goes over! ;)
