a little insanity is totally healthy (HSMJ)

The Homeschool Mother's Journal In my life this week…

Coffee.  Coffee.  Coffee.  And more coffee!  Ever since the flu invaded I feel like I can’t get back into the swing of things.  Ugh.

I just need to snap out of it already.

I forced myself to exercise today.  And do mean forced.  I’m trying to wean a little bit of the coffee and replace it with water.  If only that yummy caramel Starbucks flavor hadn’t been on sale last week!

In our homeschool this week…

I’m proud of both the big kiddos.  They’ve been working diligently (mostly) and we’ve been in a pretty good rhythm.  In spite of my lack of energy!

I have to say…I’m super happy that both ice skating and art club are finito for the year.  Much as I enjoyed them…I think I just need less.  Ya know.

Although every time things slow down I find myself devising ways to speed back up again.  Sheesh!  Glutton for punishment much?  Winking smile

Fave resource this week…

You have found Netflix, right?  I’ve been in love with Netflix since they sucked us in with that free trial!  We don’t have cable and Netflix offers a nice alternative.  I fill the instant que with “acceptables” and let the kids choose one for my their rest time.  I love how my Mama Mountain friend has been sharing what they’re watching each week.  Which is why I’m totally using her idea!  We’ve watched The Black Stallion Returns, The Tale of Despereaux, Peter & the Wolf and of course a little Dora and Backyardigans too!

My favorite thing this week was…

Definitely finding a personal note written from our Youth Leader to Toby.  Our church is small and sometimes I worry about that.  We can’t offer all the same groovy things the cool churches can.  I’ve seen some kewl church so I knows.  I worry that Toby really doesn’t fit anywhere.  But then I found this note.  And it was so sweet.  And special.  And thoughtful.  And cool.  And it really kinda put me in my place and reminded me that – He orders our steps and everything is flowing exactly as it is Supposed to.

I forget that sometimes.

Ok…

A LOT of times!  In love

But He is faithful to remind me that He is…faithful.

What’s working for us…

Our morning meetings!  I keep meaning to write a post about it.  But that whole lack of energy thing…

Anyway…

I gave each day of the week a focus and put together a binder to help build on that focus.  I also use the iPad a lot!  YouTube playlists, baby!  The kids totally love it!  They know Mondays are for Madlibs (ahem…grammar…but don’t tell them that) and Thursdays are Health & Saftey.  It’s really really working great for us!  And I like starting our day together.  It builds that sense of community that I want my kids to have with each other.

I’m thankful for…

My husband…I’m so proud of him.  And it doesn’t hurt that he’s easy on the eyes.  I’m thankful for my children.  They make me laugh and fill my heart up with love.  In between the referee moments, of course.  For the fellow blogger who emailed me this week a really sweet note.  For the girls night out I had with some really sweet and special girl friends – I totally needed that.

And I’m totally lovin’ that the weather has been gorgeous lately!

A photo to share…

  1. LOVE Netflix! We got trapped by the free trial, too. Now we watch it more than "regular" TV. I am thinking about cancelling our cable. They have some amazing documentaries.

  2. Sure, a little insanity is totally healthy! ;) I think I'm a bit like you...whenever we end one commitment, I start thinking of what's next! We do manage to stay quite busy around here, too.
We love Netflix! I've had a membership for a long time now. Unfortunately, due to our internet connection where we live (very rural area), we have to stick to the DVD option. I am hopeful that someday we will be able to get a connection better for streaming!
Thanks for linking with Favorite Resources!

  3. I think I've got A LOT of insane in me! ;)

We haven't regretted dropping cable one bit since getting Netflix! The kids don't even ask about it! And I do the same - I put in the INSTANT QUE what the kids can pick from. I'm ALWAYS adding to it! There's like over 50 things in there now! LOL

How wonderful on that note! Special, special!

And I hope you guys are feeling spiffy SOON! Moms can't be sick especially!
