how we survive being snowed in

Well, so much for that 2-3 inches.

Says the mom.  Cozy on the couch.  Watching the Hubs and Firstborn dig the family out.

The weather guessers haven’t given us the total accumulation yet.  But watching them wade through drifts over their knees, looks to be more than we expected.

The kids are loving it!  And the quiet this morning while all three plus the mutt were outside playing inspired me to make pancakes for breakfast.  To the delight of all!

But mostly, day like these…

Have me dreaming of moving to Florida.  Warm year round.  And discounts to Disney!  Sounds like paradise…

Since moving is out of the question for now, I decided comfort food was the next best thing.  And since Little Caesar's is also out of the question, I opted to crock it.

My faaaaave easy-peasy dinner has been slow cookin’ all day.  The picture does not do it justice!

Steak (whatever is on sale)

Smothered in a blend of cream of mushroom soup and steak sauce.

On low for 8-10 hours.

Served over mashed potatoes (or rice. or pasta).  Yuuuuuuum.

Later, I’m thinking to whip up a batch of brownies.  To go with the 4 gallons of milk we picked up last night.  Storm food prep.  Or with the ginormous box of Swiss Miss.  The Keurig is SOOOO amazing for quick cups of cocoa!  Smile

And then tonight, I’m scheming for The Hubs and I to catch up on our Netflix que after putting the snow-loving-thoroughly-exhausted kiddos down early.

Maybe being snowed in once in a while really isn’t that bad?

If you’re in the North East like me.  And a big snow baby too.

Let’s enjoy today…and think warm, melty thoughts tomorrow!

  1. I want snow like THAT!!! We live in East Tennessee, in the valley, so when we DO get snow, it is usually a dusting.

I know it's warmer down here today, but I am jealous of the white wonder you are experiencing right now...*SIGH*... ;0)

  2. Hot Cocoa rocks! It's the drink of choice around here in the winter months...especially with a little peppermint extract added for the kids. (I like my cocoa straight up though! LOL)

It sounds like you got more than us. We got about 2-3 inches today and 6 inches the other day. Certainly LOOKS like winter outside. It's the FRIGID temperatures that I'm not liking though! Snow - sure...Negative digits - NOPE!

  3. Our kids love hot cocoa!! I have been making them a recipe that we got from our Vintage Remedies book. We just got our first snow this week. A bit late for Ohio!
    Looks like a great week!

  4. That's how I like to enjoy the snow... from the couch or window, taking pictures of the kids and hubby freezing their little behinds. Then, I get to be the hero with the comfort food and cocoa. :) (Don't let that get out, ok?)

Found your blog from the workboxes group -- love it, and just followed. :)

  5. W-Mom...we could house swap for the Winter! ;)

Mama Mountain...we would up getting THE MOST accumulation! 10 inches. Ugh. But the first storm only gave us a we're probably pretty even.

Mommy hubby is a big Ohio State fan. :) glad you found me! And it is fun being the mommy comfort food hero, huh?

  6. Not trying to rub it in, but I live in Florida. Where it will be in the 80's all this week.... LOL

My kids have never seen snow. They would love it!

  7. made me laugh...then groan! I'm an ice cuuuuuube!
