  In my life this week…

  I feel like I’m losing my mind running to doctors appointments.  It’s that time of year for Trevy’s annual Developmental Pedi appointment and his neuro appointment is first thing next week.  Plus, I have this lump in my neck which happens to be a goiter only I hate calling it that because goiter is just a really groady word so instead I call it a slightly enlarged thyroid.  Cuter, right?  Anyway…this thing in my neck prompted a couple doctors appointments for me which of course involve more testing and appointments.  And I’m just losing it with all the doctors!  Enough with the doctors already!  No worries.  Nothing super serious for now.  Although I do need to lose quite a bit of weight and take a 1/4 teaspoon of Cinnamon daily.  Had you heard that cinnamon can reverse early diabetes?  Me neither.  But Grams has…and she bought me this mondo jar of the stuff so I’m gonna give it a go.

Now that I’m done ranting about all that…

I do have some really really kewl news.  Dr. Developmental Pedi gave Trevy a basic vocab test.  The score range for normal children is between 95-150.  This little boy who two years ago had zilcho communication.  And when I say zilcho…I mean nothin’…notta…zippo.  The speech center (and more) in his little brain was so fried every second of the day that nothing could go in.  Therefore nothing could come out.  That kinda zilcho.  Not the kind where a child understands you but doesn’t speak yet.  Trevy had nothing.  But that was two years ago.  Or almost two years ago.  His surgery anny is coming up in October.  Now.  Almost two years later…

:: drum roll ::

This little boy with (literally!) half a brain (remember…the speech side was the side removed) scored a 93!!!!!!!!!!!!!  He’s just a shade below the typical range!  In other words…A MIRACLE!

In our homeschool this week…

I am SO thankful for Grams.  She’s been a life-saver this week.  What with all the schleps to doctors and such.  And we’re all settling into our routines.  Figuring out what works best when.  And what needs more mommy time than others.  It’s a juggle.  Plus, trying to get everything wrapped up before Trevy wakes up from his nap.  Because Mr. 93 also happens to be Mr. Busy Pants too and getting schooling done with him around is impossible!

What’s working/not working for us…

Not working – finding time to clean the way I want to now that I’m homeschooling two.  I was thinking today…that I really need to get on the ball about tasking the kiddos with specific chores rather than the willy nilly way I randomly go about it now.  Sigh.

Working – our creative writing journals.  I love love love reading with the kiddos have to say!  Bristel is def way more into it than her brother.  But hers is more artsy.  I found one of those crayola books with the space to draw on top and write your story on the bottom.  This one has little prompts in it.  She loves it so much that today she finished 3 of them!  Mind you…she her spelling is just close enough that I might be able to make out what she’s intending to say.  Might.  But I love that she’s already starting her sentences with capital letters and finishing with punctuation!  Toby’s prompt today was “What would happen if it really rained cats & dogs” and his little entry is hilarious!  Although one dog is enough for me…thank you very much!  Cause do I really have to tell you that a 10 year old boy would go scoop up all the puppies and kittens his arms could carry?  That’s what he wrote anyway.  Complete with a listing of the specific breeds he’d choose!  LOL

I’m reading…

Mostly blogs.  I’d love suggestions for some good reads.  Hint.  Hint.  Winking smile
